High Tea with Champagne at Cooke's Restaurant and Bar

Tea service in Cooke’s restaurant takes its cue from an Auckland tradition of the British heritage. Circa 1928 Grand Windsor’s Cooke’s restaurant was conceived specifically for guests to take out time for their afternoon tea experience. In the late 1920’s this was a fashionable tea salon frequented by the Aucklanders.

The original building went from being a restaurant, tearooms & office to be a bank with vaults till it was converted into a hotel in the new millennia.

The restaurant has changed somewhat, having had a design makeover in 2017. Now, converted into an elegant eatery, with the designer’s fluid touches of New Zealand palette, Otaki forks, antique gold, Okarito, gorgeous pendant chandeliers, parquet flooring in Herrington bone and other textures.

The Cookes signature high tea and champagne, brilliantly combines the classic English pursuits of afternoon tea, cakes & charming piece of history. The afternoon tea is modern, taking much influence from the yesteryear of this restaurant.  Call it a contemporary twist, the food is served on granite slates rather than a round tier, with food such as delicate canapes of house cured salmon, dill in a pastry cone, crisp fried arancini with aioli, sweet treats such as geranium truffle pop tarts, mini lemon curd tartlets, black forest verrine.  They will also add a glass of Mumm Cordon Rouge Champagne to add a bit of sparkle to your afternoon.

Taking its cues from its heritage of vari-tea, Cooke’s brings its classics back of buttermilk scones with strawberry & rose preserve, dainties such as elderflower profiterole, marzipan cupcake with citrus sour cream, sandwiches of chicken & walnut, ham & cheese, classic egg mayo.

Putting the ‘Tea’ in the afternoon, for its brews, select from fifteen selections of loose leaf teas ranging from black, white, fruit teas, caffeine free, herbal & tisanes. Tea is served in fine bone china of exclusive T2 Tealeidoscope signature range, continuing tradition of tea presentation that is a part of the boutique rooms in Grand Windsor.

High tea at Hotel Grand Windsor is held daily from 12:30pm to 3:30pm.  Groups of up to 40 can be accommodated.  Bookings must be made 24 hours in advance.
